“The Avoiding of the Sick”

A lovely, funny First Communion moment today… We have a super-bright bunch of seven-year-olds who, when asked what is in the Tabernacle, immediately told us, “The Eucharist!” and when asked what the Eucharist is, piped up in unison, “The Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus!” How proud are we?! However, I couldn’t help laughing a short while later when we were recapping what the seven sacraments are. One girl told us that the sacrament dying people receive is, “The Avoiding of the Sick”… Definitely going to miss them after their First Communion Mass in a couple of weeks…..!

Well, I am very surprised that they did not say “The Eucharist is the efficacious sign and sublime cause of that communion in the divine life and that unity of the People of God by which the Church is kept in being. It is the culmination both of God’s action sanctifying the world in Christ and of the worship men offer to Christ and through him to the Father in the Holy Spirit” 😉
