Whenever big feasts come around, catechists and youth ministers alike are often found scrabbling around the Internet at the last minute looking for liturgically-relevant resources for use with a youth group / Confirmation group / school chaplaincy group. (I’ve done it a gazillion times.)
So, this Pentecost… just relax! It falls a whole month away, and I have the perfect resource for you.
Northampton Diocese asked me to create this resource, and I am delighted to be able to make it available to all of you, too! In fact, it was a joy to create. In this resource, I wanted to pull together the richness of the Scriptures and the liturgy to reveal to young people the power and joy of the Holy Spirit.
It starts with a fun skit about David – the least likely choice to be king – and compares his experience of anointing and being filled with the Holy Spirit to the Apostles at Pentecost. It looks at the role of oil in the sacraments, and how David in the Psalms speaks of this anointing, the joy of the Holy Spirit, shining on our faces. Then, it invites young people to open their hearts to the Holy Spirit. (I encourage you to do this sincerely and pray for them deeply – believe that the Holy Spirit will come.)
